Advice on anti-virus for PC needs a title without the word "Mac", even if you are installing Windows on a Mac. You just won't get as many answers from Mac people.

For Windows antivirus, I use AVG and it is very effective but only after all the MS updates. It seems the AVG profiles don't really look for old Trojans and such like Sowela and Recycler. I installed AVG on my office-mate's WinTel box and it found 11 bad things (Trojans, dialers, etc.) right off the bat.

For Mac OS X, I installed ClamAV but I have only scanned once, took 20 minutes, found nothing. It's really hard to judge how well anti-virus programs work on a Mac when there is nothing out there for them to find. I think until someone makes a real virus for Mac, we can just sit and wait, like the Maytag repairman. When a real problem arises, the real problem fixers will show what they can do. Then we will know which one is best. A poll of what Mac geeks use is listed below. Sixty-seven percent of them use nothing and they are the power users.
