I doubt that any one Anti Spam programme will catch everything but the best one out there by a mile is Sunbelt Softwares CounterSpy. no such thing as a good all-in-one, the best adware/spyware removing software is free, ad-aware (www.lavasoft.de) and spybot search %26 destroy (www.spybot.info). I would probably just use the firewall built into windows because that's perfectly sufficient for home users, and as far as an antivirus i would probably go with clamav for a free one (www.clamav.net) or if you want to pay for one i would probably recommend norton, but it's quite a resource hog, mcaffee had gone down hill after they were bought out by network associates a few years ago, but that's another option.

Personally I've had no joy with Spybot, or most of the others mentioned! In my experience Service Pack 2 for Xp and then installing Yahoo toolbar with anti spy has seen me right.

That said, once you get some of the worst spyware the only solution is to re-format and re-install, even the best spyware programs cannot remove all of the spyware out there.

Get yourself an Apple Mac, no need to worry then as the problems revolve around Microsoft which actually has a virus embedded in it which makes it so vunerable.
I had a big problem even I was using McAfee and I tried f-secure but nothing worked but avast which you can get free for more than a year.

Using the new security code; Yahoo鈥檚 new defense against spam bots getting into game lounges. Type them in order listed left to right. No spaces. Use only lower case letters no caps. The main problem is numbers verses letters. Example small "o" is a letter while "0" is a number. Type all letters in lower case. Double check before you hit enter. if you get it wrong it will let you try again with a new code. Also pay attention to the lower case letters as some are hard to recognize with the line running through them. If this still fails and the code keeps opening a new window. Try turning off your firewall.Or setting it to allow games.yahoo.com. I have this problem using Foxfire. No problems with IE. Update yahoo has made the code shorter easyer to read and use. If using Norton security it helps to turn it off until you get into game lounge. The looping seems to be caused by security firewalls. I use IE6 and have my cookie over ride set to allow games.yahoo.com. Windows Defender is a spyware scanning and removal tool so you do have spyware. AVG free is an excellent product. I have used both of these programs together on my 2 laptops, my girlfriend's and my mum's PCs for well over a year now and none of them have had any problems with anything nasty getting onto the individual systems so you should have no problems. I have full confidence in both programs. You may have to uninstall your Tiscali antivirus to prevent any potential conflicts with the AVG software though.

Leave your bulk mail alone and just delete it. That's your best protection against spam. The only other thing to do is permanently close your email.

Anyways, Symantec is one of the best, probably the best anti-virus software and if you shell out some extra money, you can buy the antivirus with added features like antispam, firewall, and e-mail and internet protection ect..

Now, if you are worried about the cost of it, then let me tell you friend, symantec is expensive than any other McAfee or other staples (the company staples has a partnership with an anti-virus company, I don't have the name with me) software programs.

So, the best choice by performance, quality, relaiablity, customer service and protection is Symantec. Most of the governmental organization and private companies use the coporate version of Symantec, if you work for a company, hospital, you can as well use the work antivirus program at your home computer, it is completely legitimate.

Download a spam blocker and that will take care of that problem. It works with Outlook, Express and Thunderbird. Its free and it really works great.

The Trend Micro Suite 2008 has a Spam Program free included. It works great and does not conflict with Windows Live Mail spam folder. I just installed this on my new Vista Premium. I have used Spam Bully and the CA Antispam - but both went south really fast. I got double downloads from Spam Bully of emails. CA Antispam may have been attacked on the server side - but discontinued for days and suddenly I could not access my mail client. Dumped that and everything is okay. Of course those two companies aren't giants in the news but were about the only ones around. Enter Trend Micro.

The others install the antispam toolbar in Outlook Express and Outlook mail clients (POP Mail clients) and also their own spam folder. You get the 'Spam' and 'Not Spam' buttons for the Inbox email and undo a valid email in the spam folder. The Trend Micro is a tad more sophisticated. I am on a new Vista as well and totally recommend this Suite to you as I am using it also. Works fine.

I got infected with VIRUSHEAT - it comes like a fake video codec. This, while I was protected by BITDEFENDER Internet Security 2008, which I bought one week ago. Then I could not remove it with bitdefender. Then somehow I managed to remove it with Malwarebytes Antimalware. Then - as I needed to reinstall windows anyway, I got BitD out, put Kaspersky in, and downloaded virus heat again. Again, I got infected, and kaspersky could not remove it. Then with NOD32, and got infected, but then NOD got it out.

The only effective antivirus was Avira free, which stopped it. but it has no firewall, no antispam, no antispyware. Is there anything truly reliable and complete, without having to install 3 or 4 security software - antivirus, antispam, antyspyware, firewall?

It sounds to me like the registration program you're using is running a script, which is something that runs seperately from the program itself, but can crash the program if it attempts to access something that doesn't exist. I had a trojan one time that actually disabled and deleted files that my anit-virus and spyware programs needed to run. Make sure your PC isn't infected with something.
The "res" before the file name would indicate that it is not properly registering the file it is attempting to access. Are you an administator on your PC? If not, try running the install with the administrator account.

If that does not work, try completely uninstalling the program, and do a reinstall, but when it gets to where it ask you were you want to install the program, change the name of the directory. (Add a "1" to the end or something. This will force it to have to reregister all the files because their location will have changed. That often resolves this kind of install issue.
I think you should go to start%26gt;setting%26gt;control panel%26gt; add and remove...%26gt; remove norton completely from your computer and install the new version. hope this may help

I've just uninstalled it myself. Mcfee has made it hard to remove so you have to do it the long way.

Go to Start, select Control Panel, select add/remove programs select remove and find all of Mcfee entries and click on each one to remove. I found it best to keep the Mcfee Site Advisor as that is very useful tool and for their opinions of good or bad sites on the internet. I have a free trial of it on my new computer. Good luck with it.

Its true Norton gives script error after installing IE 7. Uninstalling it solves the problem. But setting the default browser to Firefox doesn't help.

However, I would reccommend that you download and use Advanced WindowsCare v2 Personal 2.10.32158.

actually although i swear by PANDA , windows firewall in sp2 is not a bad product as i had to use it on my other desktop for a month until i bought an additional license for panda but now i believe that pandas 2007 product comes with 3 licenses instead of 1 now. it's not free but it's worth it if you value your pc. :-)

You can only use one anti-virus at a time or they will cause a conflict. The same is with firewall, only use one.

You can use as many anti-spyware softwares as you like as long as only one has resident "real-time" protection. (Most free anti-spywares have no real-time).

I have a little problem....my parents emailed me, and i tried to reply to them. However, less than several seconds later, i got an email from MAILER-DAEMON@ yahoo.com. Subject- Failure notice. Opened it up.....something along the lines of "I can't get this letter to the stated address. Sorry, this is a permanent qmail error. I give up" (literally said that)

Do this, it works for me: Click on START, then RUN... then type msconfig, press OK and go to the STARTUP tab. I bet all those items are checked. Uncheck those you don't know (all of them, if you want), press APPLY then OK, then reboot. It's gonna run faster this time with less load on it!

All you'll be doing is NOT run the program/s on startup. That you can do whenever you need them only.

that's what was happening to me what I did was every time email comes in I press not spam then it goes to inbox. just keep doing that and it should be fine.
Your ISP or Norton may have marked them as 'Suspected Spem', but until you create a rule within outlook for those mails to automatically go to your junk folder then they will just go to your in box.

All you need do is to highlight the offending mail, go to the 'Actions' menu, select 'Junk e-mail' and select the 'Add Sender to Blocked Senders List' option.
You might have to create a "rule" for the emails coming with the [norton antispam] so they are sent to you junk folder. You right clic on the email and go to "create a rule". This is what I do when I get one...

I know we are trying here to solve the problem but the spam still go through...

Unless you really cannot afford to pay for a security solution, I would avoid free programs such as AVG, Spybot and Adaware. Shockingly these three programs used in conjunction now protects you from less than 60% of the threats out there today. In all seriousness, these programs (especially spybot and adaware) are no longer good enough to be your only protection against viruses, spyware and adware (as well as trojans, rootkits and other nasties). They used to be great programs a couple of years ago, but have now been overtaken by programs with next-generation approaches.

we had a really bad trojan here which kept coming back. I can only suggest you type this worms name into google and read through some forums on how to get rid of it. AVG would delete our trojan and the damned thing kept coming back so I went to a forum and some guy suggested a number of scanners and one of them finally worked. Its a real pain but stay with it and you will succeed.

Norton Systemworks is very good, I recommend it. If you get systemworks you have no need for mechanic. Systemworks takes care of alot of things. If you stick with norton I would get this. I would get rid of McAfee, it's not that good. However the best for both anti-virus and spyware is Spysweeper with Antivirus. This program is too good and gets better each day. It protects from over 170,500 threats. No other software can even compare or come close to it. Spysweeper is 2nd to none. They have a free trial. I highly recommend it.

You must have Beta Mail. In Original this never happens. I go back and forth when troubles start up. Because of the time factor.

AVG Anti-Virus uses very low resources and AVG Anti-Spam is no different. If you purchase AVG Internet Security, you'd find that Anti-Spam and Anti-Spyware is part of it, and again it uses little resources. Anti-Rootkits do not run in the background. It only scans when you want it to...so no resources will be used, unless you scan for Rootkits...hope that this helps.

224mg of Ram isn't really enough these days. You need a minimum of 512kb. Don't ever upgrade to XP or you will be in trouble. Just use AGG anti virus (free) and Download Spybot. With Spybot you can run it when your computer isn't busy.

Sadly, it appears that you have visited a dodgy site at some time. Usually it will have been a site offering freebies or money for nothing. You gave your E-Mail address and they are now making you pay for your mistake. You may also have opened some of the spam mail thus letting the mail servers know that your E-Mail account is active. Anti Spam (especially Norton and McAffee) will not block this spam as the spammers are using software that forges the senders IP Address and they are using many networks. Another reason that the spam won't be detected is because much of it will be sent by Bots on individual PCs and your address is an active one. Once your address is known to this extent, it is usually better to open a new E-Mail account. However, there is one other possibility and that is that you have some spyware and / or a bot on your PC. If you don't have it, get Spybot Search and Destroy. It is free and can be downloaded from www.downloads.com or www.computeractive.co.uk Save the .exe file to your pc and run it. Once installed, allow Internet Access for the program and let it install all available updates (definitions etc.). As soon as the update is complete, do a "Full System Scan". If you have any trojans, bots, malwar, spyware or adware hidden in your system, this program will detect it and you can safely remove it. If Spybot detects any malware, and you remove it, delete all the spam from your inbox and see how much arrives tomorrow. If the spam is greatly reduced, run spybot again and delete all the spam from your inbox. However, if you are still getting around 200 E-Mails, you need a new E-Mail account.

My computer is infected with "Security Toolbar 7.1", and it is showing different symptoms:

1. Computer prompts me that my system is infected with different viruses like trojan-spy.win32@mx; and to download different antispam softwares.

2. I am having full updates of norton antivirus... but it is unable to detect this problem

3. I can not restore my computer in back date also...

4. There is no infrmation about this toolbar even in "add or remove programme" in control panel menu..

for information, i am having original windows XP home edition and a licenced copy of norton antivirus.

i dont want to spent any more to remove this "Security toolbar 7.1"

Can anybody help me by telling the method to remove this spyware from my computer without spending money?

What firewall system should I get?

My McAfee security center on one of my computers has an unupdated antivirus and antispam system. virus scan is expired and some other things aren't installed. When I try updating it prompts for a username and pass. The computer's administrator will be out of town for 2-4 months so I don't know what to do. I tried installing a program called NOD32 but I unticked 'scan all things downloaded' because there was a warning saying its unsafe to run two antivirus systems because they might cancel eachother out (because I'm not sure if McAfee is still running or not).

Was this a good move? I'm not sure what NOD does. I've just downloaded it and left it like that. I'm not sure if it helps or not.

And is there a way to update McAfee?

Norton and McAfee Antivirus are terrible!!!! I had to "wipe" my laptop because of simple viruses (labled as easy to remove) which killed my laptop. Do not open your spam email it only verfies your email address and you will get a lot more. Just click on them and them hit the spam button. Try deleting your cookies, temp folders and history. When you go into different websites you leave behind cookies and that will cause you to get a lot of spam. Also check your filter in options and see if you need to adjust it. Hope this helps!!!

Guess you should not . You could just work on the setting of your @mail account . Then just don' t use your core real address for subscription or other purpose when in dubious sites .

For a stand alone personal computer not on a domain XP home will be fine. You will notice little or no difference from the PRO version. The only other difference I can think of is that Home has no backup utility (ntbackup) installed.

I just bought a new laptop that came with Norton Internet Security. Emails in Outlook come through labeled "norton antispam" but they do not go to a Norton Antispam folder like they to on my other computer. Both computers have the exact same programs and software. I also don't have a Norton Antispam toolbar in Outlook. I tried to add-in the program manually, but it won't add. How do I get my antispam to work??? I don't want a bunch of ED emails in my inbox.

Are you sure you want to use this? It seems like it would irritate customers who are emailing you. If I saw a bounce back message like this, I probably wouldn't click it. Also, you lose your domain name and have to use theirs for email. And their process of logging onto webmail to check for unverified email sounds the same as logging into webmail and checking your junk email folder. In others words, just as complicated. Also you might want to check if you can globally control settings for your whole company or are stuck doing it ala carte. It might make things easier for your employees but more of a hassle for your customers.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. I have just upgraded to AVG free 8.0 and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

Sometimes missing files cause you to not be able to uninstall something. If this is the case, sometimes reinstalling it fixes the problem.

Maybe try reinstalling AVG too.

Scan for problems first.
There's a couple of ways to remove it. Go My Computer/ disk C:/ Program files/ AVG. Delete the folder. Then click start, run and type regedit. On your left column you'll see Hkey Local Machine, expand it. Look though the list for any registry that is related to AVG and delete. YOU'RE DONE. Restart your PC and then check the program files %26 registry to make sure it's gone. If successful then attempt to re-install AVG. Keep your registration key for it handy as you'll be using it again to activate the full version AVG.

Linux has a built in firewall called IPTables and viruses don't do much harm on most linuxes.

Of course Redhad 7 is pretty old. You should have your web host install a web based admin tool such as Webmin or cPanel so you can manage stuff easily via the web.

Or you should quit them and switch to a company that uses more current linux versions and offers web based management.

The only case I would use A/V software on Linux is if I was running a mail server, or public FTP, then I would use ClamAV.

I use Futurehosting and they rock. (Virtual Private Servers)

Sounds to me like you need managed hosting though, or need to learn more about being a Linux admin.

Live update will not include virus definitions; I have to manually load them in. Symantec keeps telling me to check my clock. My clock is correct. And as for Norton customer service, try speaking to a manager there and express your unhappiness, and hopefully they will resolve it for u for free.
you should delete all of your tempoary internet files,and dfrag your hard drive,then try.if this does not work then unistall the product fully and try reinstalling it again
The Clock may show the correct time, but is the Date and Year correct.

Double click on the Time in your Task Bar (lower right on the screen)

Verify that both the Year and Date are correct.

It's unfotunate, because ad revenue is obviously what makes a lot of small beneficial sites possible. I don't mind legitimate adds only malicious popups and scripts. I think there will be a backlash against some of the ad removing technology as it also blocks legitaimate content and requires technical saavy to tweakit. I have no idea what you mean. Do you mean firewall? This will block all programs trying to access your computer unless you allow it. Spam is blocked at the reception site such as Outlook Express or hotmail, and you should check to be sure no important messages have been blocked.

Depends what program you are using. Does it have a button that allows you to say this is NOT SPAM? Maybe you need to WHITELIST your contacts so those you want to get mail from don't end up in your spam folder. I don't have a problem with Yahoo and Gmail.

I use Trend Micro too. Was recommended to me by Dell, and I have a Dell computer also. Another one is Panda, which I had first with my first computer. I also heard AVG is good too.
